NextCare Urgent Care, Cedar Hill - a BSWHealth partner - 642 Uptown Blvd, Cedar Hill
Went in for an STD screening and the nurse and doctor made me feel so uncomfortable. All I told the nurse was that I wanted to get the labs done, nothing else. She leaves and the doctor comes in and the first things she said is “i understand you think you may have been in contact with someone who’s infected”. I’m like I never said that. I just wanted to get tested. That was very rude. There was no need to assume that or ever put words in my mouth. Why I wanted to get tested is irrelevant especially if I didn’t say it on my own.

Research indicates that women of color are always the recipient of sub par healthcare. So when I walk in here in pain, my expectations are already low but telling me that you don’t prescribe narcotics before me even checking in is a new low. Please educate your staff.   I’m not here to drug seek.  I’m here to get rid of the pain I have had for a week. This is why we don’t want to come in with an injury.  And why wasn’t the white man with back pain being advised only the same thing?   I won’t be back.  I don’t need to be judged.

Recently I visited CityDoc with the worst case of food poisoning I have ever had. From the start the staff was patient, helpful and quick to get me through reception. When I arrived I admit I wasn’t the easiest patient as all I wanted was someone to help ease my symptoms and help me feel better. Throughout my visit the staff remained attentive, courteous and professional. I would recommend this team to anyone without hesitation. Thank you again CityDoc.

Getting Tested for STDs in Arlington, TX

Who should get tested for STDs?

According to the CDC, sexually active adults, particularly those with multiple partners, should get tested for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). This is also important for those who have had unprotected sex, or have symptoms such as unusual discharge, burning during urination, or sores in the genital area. It's also worth noting that some STDs can be asymptomatic, meaning they present no symptoms, making regular testing crucial for those at risk.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is a vital part of maintaining good sexual health. Early detection can prevent serious health complications, such as infertility, certain types of cancer, and increased susceptibility to HIV. Additionally, knowing your STD status can help prevent the spread of these diseases to others. According to the CDC, many STDs are curable, and all are treatable, so early detection and treatment can significantly improve health outcomes.

Std testing options in Arlington, TX:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics provide convenient, same-day STD testing. Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent in Arlington, TX, and Baylor Scott & White Partner, also in Arlington, are both highly-rated clinics where you can book same-day and next-day appointments through Solv's website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Your primary care provider can also provide STD testing. They can offer a comprehensive overview of your health and can provide follow-ups and treatment plans if necessary.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers often offer free or low-cost STD testing. These centers are crucial resources, especially for those without insurance or with limited financial resources.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits provide another convenient option for STD testing. These kits can be ordered online, used in the privacy of your home, and then sent back to a lab for analysis.

Prevalence of STDs in Arlington

Arlington, located in Tarrant County, TX, has seen an increase in STD cases over the years, mirroring national trends. According to the CDC, the most common STDs in the area are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Comparatively, Arlington's STD rates are higher than those in nearby Hill and McCulloch counties but lower than Caddo and De Soto parishes.

Risk factors related to STDs in Arlington

Several factors contribute to the prevalence of STDs in Arlington. These include high rates of unprotected sex, lack of regular testing, and limited access to sexual health education and resources. Additionally, social determinants of health such as poverty, lack of transportation, and stigma associated with STD testing can also contribute to higher rates of infection. It's important for residents to be aware of these risk factors and take proactive steps such as regular testing, use of protection during sex, and seeking out reliable health information and resources.

STD Testing FAQs

  • Where should I get an STD test in Arlington?

In a doctor's office, a health clinic, or an urgent care center, you can get an STD test. If you're experiencing symptoms, it's best to visit a doctor's office, where they can also treat you or issue you a prescription. • How long does it take to get STD test results?

Various testing are required for various STDs. Depending on the type of STD test you took, you may receive your results in two to ten days. Some outcomes may be immediately available. Your doctor may also take a swab from the inside of your cheek, your vaginal area, or another potentially infected place.

  • What STDs can be detected by a blood test?

Blood tests are used to diagnose hepatitis B, hepatitis C, herpes, HIV, and syphilis. In a laboratory, a technician examines a blood sample for antibodies that the body has produced in reaction to disease. The virus's DNA can also be detected by several blood tests. To find a healthcare practitioner in your area, simply enter your location and search for "STD test" on our website. If you have a specific STD, inform your doctor so that the necessary test can be scheduled. Otherwise, they'll help you figure out which tests you'll need. The nurse or doctor simply needs a few minutes to get a blood sample, a urine sample, or a swab from the probable infection site.

  • Can I test myself for STDs at home?

Although there are several STD home tests available, not all of them are accurate. The accuracy of any STD test is determined by the quality of the sample taken. For home STD kits, a blood sample, a urine sample, or both are frequently required. Because doctors and nurses have more experience collecting samples, traditional in-office STD testing is the most accurate.
